In the summer of 2004, nine women and three course instructors gathered for the inaugural class “A Healing Workshop for Women Living with Cancer.”  Using photography, journaling, and personal coaching, we shared sorrows, challenges and transformations that come from the cancer experience. The “explorer” rather than the “survivor” emerged in the healing process as we accessed the potential within for change.

Photographs are self-portraits etched by our personal relationship to life. By photographically capturing metaphors in nature, our dark side, our beauty and how others view us, they became a vehicle for the communication into visualizing possibilities. The images here represent the extraordinary journey of women coming to terms with their endeavor in healing their wounds.

I especially want to thank the brave explorers that shared their journeys and their souls. I am honored by the community of trust we created that allowed the making of these images and the inspirational quotes that accompany them. Capturing your beauty, not a calendar, was the intent, but I applaud your dedication to changing the face of cancer for all by allowing them to be shown.

This calendar has been produced as a grass roots effort to raise scholarship funds for future healing workshops. Printing has been generously funded by Freestyle Photographic Supplies, thus allowing all proceeds to be donated for scholarships.
